What is a CMMC enclave and does it cut costs?

A CMMC enclave is a deliberately small, isolated environment where all CUI is created, stored and processed — so only the enclave, not your whole company, is in assessment scope. Done right, an enclave cuts CMMC cost dramatically, often 40-60%, and speeds certification by months.

Why enclaves win

  • Fewer users, devices and systems to harden, document and assess
  • Physical controls shrink when the enclave is cloud-hosted (VDI like Azure Virtual Desktop or AWS WorkSpaces for access)
  • Your general IT keeps its normal tooling; only CUI users change workflow

The trade-off is workflow discipline: CUI must never leave the enclave — including printing, which is safer disabled for CUI documents. Estimate enclave-vs-enterprise costs side by side in the free CMMC cost planner.
